How to make the transition to a big city?

I will soon be moving to Austin, Texas at the begining of 09' and I've been pondering a few questions. First where do I start? I've been booth renter and a salon owner; and now since Katrina I'm sharing space with a relative in his establishment. What position do I start in when i relocate?. I don't want to go and start my new life off with the same routine, I am looking for a change. I would love to jump into another area of our profession. Any suggestions,references and advice???
